The Medical Billing and Coding Technicians organize and manage health information data by ensuring its quality, accuracy, accessibility, and security in both paper and electronic systems.
They use various classifications systems to code and categorize patient information for reimbursement purposes, for databases and registries, and to maintain patients’ medical and treatment histories. Most billing and coding technicians work in hospitals or physicians’ offices.
The Medical Coding program student will complete instructional and laboratory procedures for a period of up to 18 weeks in length. Successful completion of all courses is required to receive a program certificate of completion.
This course will teach students medical terminology, HIPAA and compliance, guidelines for proper use of ICD-9 and ICD-10 CM codes, and more.
